The Hivemind

Recently I launched www.thehivemind.com .

The Hivemind is a free online tool that uses the power of collective intelligence to make decisions, brainstorm or solve problems.

The concept is very simple: you can ask any question on thehivemind.com and ask your friends, co-workers or anyone else to submit answers in 140 characters or less (just like a tweet). Then everyone evaluates all answers by comparing them against eachother. Each time 2 randomly chosen answers are shown on 2 buttons, each participant clicks on the answer they think is best, they can do this as many times as they want.

When enough comparisons have been made, the result is a list of all answers sorted by the highest consensus.

Here is a simple example: What is the funniest oneliner joke?
More examples here.

If you want to learn more about how it works, click here.

The Hivemind is also a social experiment. The question on the homepage of thehivemind.com is always the same : "What would you like to say to the rest of humanity?".

Once every hour the main hivemind is checked and if enough suggestions and comparisons have been made, the answer with the highest consensus rating will be tweeted and posted on facebook as a statusupdate. After this, the main hivemind is reset and the process starts all over again. The idea is that this could become a tool for all humanity to speak with a common voice.
